Bill O'Reilly's dumb Jesus

$
0
0
...that is how Bill O'Reilly portrays God Incarnate in his movie "Killing Jesus".

I recorded "Killing Jesus" and tried to watch it the next day, but it so awful- truly the most horrible "bible" story I have seen in years.  So horrible that I couldn't make it through the first hour, let alone watch the entire three hour debacle.

Besides all the fiction, O'Reilly rewrites the scriptures and changes the order of things and worst of all depicts our Lord as some clueless mere mortal stumbling through life not knowing anything until his cousin John the Baptist attempts to fill him in.

It was pathetic right from the beginning.

-Mary has amnesia and doesn't recall the Angel Gabriel's words to her (Luke 1:28-38).   Nor does she remember the angels, shepherds or the three Kings who came to pay homage to the new born king - you'd think something like that would leave a lasting impression but not in O'Reilly's version.  Nope, Mary is depicted as clueless and dull-witted as Jesus in this movie.

-Jesus is not shown presented at the Temple where Simeon takes Jesus in his arms and proclaims that salvation has come or his prophecy to Mary about the suffering she will endure because of who she gave birth to. (Luke 2)

-The escape to Egypt happened because Joseph was worried and antsy to get out of there, no angel of the Lord telling them to go and not return until they were told by God (Matt.2:13 and Matt.2:19).  The return is based on a chat worry-wart Joseph had with some traveling Jews after Herod's death.  Pure fiction.

-The worst is poor dumb Jesus...clueless about who he is.  No one remembers the amazing facts surrounding his birth, the prophecy fulfilled, the angels, the wise men...nothing.  It's all a blur as he works hard to be a carpenter like his step dad Joseph- only he's so clueless he doesn't know Joseph wasn't his real father.  Mary with her amnesia forgot to mention the miraculous virginal conception of God Incarnate by the Holy Spirit.  Just slipped her mind!

I gotta give it to the actor playing Jesus, he does a perfect job of looking confused, baffled and just plain old dumb as O'Reilly seems to believe Jesus was.

But I just couldn't take Jesus being depicted as dumb as a pile of rocks.

In all my life, I have never imagined Jesus as walking around confused not knowing who he was/is.  I never imagined Mary forgetting everything that happened to her!  Who could forget an angel telling you you've been chosen by God to carry God Incarnate in your womb?  O'Reilly's Mary manages to forget it all and more.

The movie is insulting and I felt disgusted watching it- especially during Holy Week.

The movie is like an anti-Christian depiction of what an anti-Christian might portray as THEIR VERSION of the story of Jesus minus Christ's Divinity and lots of Sacred Scripture re-writes.  I have to wonder if O'Reilly used a Bible at all or if he wrote this fiction from some pagan anti-Christian source.  This movie is NOT in any way, shape or form something a Christian who knows the Bible and story of Jesus could ever enjoy or recommend.

It's deplorable.  Even worse than the book O'Reilly's publisher asked me to review for him (HERE).

I turned it off and deleted it before I shoved my foot threw my new flat screen.

My time was better spent watching reruns of The Rockford Files on MeTV (I save Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" movie for Good Friday).

Practicing Catholics know its bad when The National Catholic Reporter likes it and declares it "remarkable"!

Remarkably bad maybe!

In my opinion, O'Reilly needs to stick with shouting at his Fox news guests and stay away from a religion he clearly knows little about.

Bullied for being pregnant...

Just when I think people can't get nastier they surprise me and manage to get even nastier.

A pregnant weather woman, Kristi Gordon, from Global News is receiving hate mail because she is pregnant.

Apparently, people are so offended by her "fat" pregnant belly and her maternity clothes that they are sending her hate mail, asking she get off the air until she is no longer "fat" because they find pregnant women to be repulsive.

No really.

What sort of person does this?

What sort of person sees a pregnant working mom on television, gets to repulsed with a woman carrying life within her, that they take the time to write and send a horrible letter insulting, bullying and degrading her?

Who does that?

It certainly isn't the Pro-Life crowd.

Catholic Library Association Honors
‘EWTN Bookmark’ Host Doug Keck

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – The Catholic Library Association honored EWTN President & COO Doug Keck with the Aggiornamento Award during its Annual Convention held April 7 to 9, 2015 in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes individuals or groups who make an “outstanding contribution for the renewal of parish and community life in the spirit of Pope Saint John XXIII.” Previous winners include Fr. Robert Barron; Sr. Ann Shields; and Bishop Thomas Welsh.

Keck hosts “EWTN Bookmark,” one of EWTN’s most popular and enduring programs. The show gives Catholic authors a worldwide platform on which to showcase their works and viewers have their faith strengthened by reading and sharing some of the world’s best Catholic books. Keck was the originator of “EWTN Bookmark” and has been the host since its inception in 1998.

“As an organization, we are grateful that your discussions with Catholic authors reach a large audience and assist in our work of providing religious materials for the public,” said CLA Interim Executive Director, Malachy R. McCarthy.

Keck was especially honored to receive this award because “EWTN Bookmark” is a show that is close to his heart.

“There are so many great Catholic authors who need the opportunity to get in front of a large audience, and so many people whose lives can be changed by the teachings they impart,” he said. “I am blessed, with the assistance of my long-time producer, Lee South, to be able to bring these books to the world’s attention and grateful to the CLA for its recognition of our efforts.”

Call the Midwife's poor homosexual victim

$

A few years ago PBS premiered the first season of "Call the Midwife" and I was hooked.  I'm a sucker for period pieces and the BBC does period docudrama's like no one else.

If you haven't heard of or seen "Call the Midwife"you must be living under a rock  it's about -as the name implies- midwifery.  The first season is set in the 1950's England, the midwives are made up of Church of England nuns and British midwives who are on call 24/7 to the women in their community.

Overall, I have very much enjoyed this peek into the history of pregnant women and their midwives- though a few episodes annoyed me because I could see TODAY's politics working their way into the show in what I believe to be a completely wrong depiction of the times.

[spoilers ahead]

The first such annoyance was when birth control was being pushed and seen as perfectly acceptable among most of the women- including the nuns.  Now I know SOME people in the 1950's thought this was a grand idea, but I don't believe how it was depicted in this show was accurate for the time.

That happened again on Sunday night, with the latest episode- only this time it was dealing with homosexuality.

A very pregnant married woman is humiliated when her husband walks passed their home to go to a public bathroom for sex with a strange man.  The homosexual husband gets caught in a police sting and is arrested for several indecent and immoral acts.

The pregnant wife is distraught, humiliated, hurt, heartbroken, afraid and worried about her future and the future of her baby and marriage.

But the wife is NOT the victim here... oh no!  It's the poor homosexual married man who can't be with another man because society is so mean and heartless.

News of his arrest hits the papers and people are disgusted.  Not only was he cheating on his extremely pregnant wife, but he was doing so with a complete stranger - another man in a public bathroom.  What's not to be disgusted by?

The community is portrayed as HORRIBLE, NASTY and MEAN because they do not want this man and his wife in their Church festival.

The main characters (midwives, doctor and Church of England priest) are not disgusted by what this man has done at all.  They don't feel outrage at what he's done to his wife, their marriage or the future of their child trying to grow up and live with the scandal daddy has brought to his family.  Oh no!  The victim is the poor homosexual man who just wanted a little sodomy now and again.

So when the Church festival comes and the horrible, nasty mean community says they don't want this family taking part because children will be there and the scandal of the situation should not be displayed at a Church festival what happens?

Oh yes!

The "Jesus taught us to love everyone" line comes out.  Funny how that comes out and is backed by the Church of England priest, but the priest NEVER mentions adultery, sodomy or scandal.  Not a word of worry for the children at this Church function who are all aware of their parents outrage over the situation.

I believe that such a "scandal" was still a big deal during this time period, so why the BBC decided to alter history can only be trumped up to today's political correctness in my opinion.

I simply can't believe that during those days especially, a married man having sex with another man and getting arrested would have been seen as a "Jesus taught us to love everyone" moment.

This arrest was a huge scandal in this small community and the pregnant wife was nearly destroyed by what her husband had done, yet HE was portrayed as the victim.

The homosexual adulterer is the victim?  Not the pregnant wife?  Not all the people including the children who were scandalized by this?  Would people in those days truly see the man as the victim here and not his wife?

I doubt it.

Even today, I believe, the woman would clearly be seen as the victim to MOST of us- except for the gay crowd who are ALWAYS playing the victim.

When people do a period docudrama they should stick to the facts and what is authentic to the period.  Injecting current ideas/trends/beliefs completely ruins the "period" piece.

Does anyone know or understand what sin is?  The sin of adultery?  Sodomy? Or the sin of scandal?  Are we so USED to being scandalized by the sexual immorality of society that we don't even feel scandalized by any sin anymore?

Wickedness should ALWAYS scandalize us.  And those of us who call ourselves Christians should always recognize what is sin.

Don't let television shows with an agenda instruct you in what Jesus' love is all about.  To love as Jesus did is to save the sinner from his/her sins, not help them to stay in their sins by making the sinner the victim.

An UPDATE:
Apparently the actor, Stephen McGann who plays the doctor on "Call the Midwife" doesn't like what I had to say about the show or his characters support of the adulterous homosexual man:

Mr. McGann seems to believe that Pope Francis has changed Catholic doctrine on homosexuality, adultery and scandal.  Here is the link McGann sites in his tweet to me: "Pope signals new era of forgiveness to gay priests".

My response to McGann:

My link goes to the catechism on homosexuality:
2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, 141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
The back and forth over this topic continues on Twitter between myself and Mr. McGann.  For more, check out our Twitter accounts.

The Holy Water Hose

Yes, this IS a 'holy water' hose...

No, it is NOT a Catholic exorcism.

quote: So much so is their faith, they endure incredible pain to remove the “evil” from within.Tesinsky watched as the “possessed” took part in the exorcism, which involves being punched in the head and stomach in order provoke a reaction from the demons.
“It’s part of the practice, he [Wondimu] wants to make the demons scared, and talk to them”, Tesinsky explains.
“Someone who seemed calm before starts to scream and be aggressive, they really change their voice.”
The priest takes his cross and begins to ask the demons questions through the “host’s” body.
“Who are you and how many?”
The victim proceeds to scream while the priest continues to punch them and showers them in holy water from a hose.
“You don’t have any power above me, I’m not going to leave,” Tesinsky recalled the spirit replying.
More punching.   -end quote-

Do you know what's in your attic?

I live in an old house, over 100 years old.  While finding nothing more interesting in the walls and eves of the house than old Nazi coins and paper money from everywhere the previous owner (an army soldier) had been stationed in years past.

I grew up in an even older house, built in 1745.  Over the years, during renovations, we'd find all sorts of oddities. Walls full of corn cobs, glass bottles, horseshoes, newspapers and old tools.  The most unusual find was in the basement.  The house was held up by an enormous tree- bark still on it! Apparently they just chopped off the top of the tree and used it as a support for the center of the old house.

While finding assorted skeletal remains of past rodent pests, we never found anything like Mike Lopez in Florida.

Mr. Lopez found a skeletal hand in a case with some sort of treasure map and some old coins!

Religious Television Station of the Year

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – EWTN Global Catholic Network has been honored with a Gabriel Award for Religious Television Station of the Year for the third year in a row! The award, which recognizes the Network’s total programming and community service, is part of a prestigious annual competition sponsored by the Catholic Academy of Communication Professionals.

EWTN Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer Michael P. Warsaw expressed his gratitude for the honor. He noted, “A Gabriel Award is especially meaningful to EWTN because the awards are presented for programs that uplift and nourish the human spirit and affirm the dignity of human persons – something EWTN strives to do every day. We thank the Catholic Academy for this special recognition.”

“EWTN is the beacon of Catholic broadcast television,” said one of the judges. “It is a consistent and true voice of the Faith. The tape accompanying this entry showed a broader range of programming than I was aware of from my viewing of the Network. Great work as always.”

According to another judge: “The entry had very high production values throughout. The film used excellent images, top-notch CG [on-screen graphics], and a lot of hard work covering everything from the discoveries of a young Catholic child to contemporary trends in the worldwide church. As a viewer, you knew the piece was promoting a Catholic worldview, but never felt like you were being hit over the head with it. Very well done.”
The Gabriel Awards, which is open to both secular and religious television and radio stations and producers in the U.S. and Canada, will be presented Thursday, June 25 at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel in Buffalo, N.Y.

EWTN President & Chief Operating Officer Doug Keck thanked the judges for their comments, saying. “I am proud that the work of the EWTN team is being recognized for excellence. Mother's Day and aborted babies

$

As Mother’s Day approaches I am filled with mostly wonderful thoughts.  Remembering my own excitement the first time I was counted among the many women who could celebrate Mother’s Day for the first time.  I also remember all the Mother’s Days of my childhood, making cards for my own mother and grandmothers and great grandmother.  Picking flowers in the yard and field behind my house, wrapping them in Barbie ribbons (Mom wasn’t much of a crafter, so I had to make due), holding them behind my back waiting until she poured over each word my broken Crayola’s had written, including the X’s and O’s under my neatly printed name.  When she looked up smiling from my handmade card I would say “Happy Mother’s Day!” as if she hadn’t known what day it was.  My little brother beside me repeated all I did and looked to me to see if he got it right.

When I was older and married with my first and then second child, Mother’s Day became even more profound.  Now it was me reading the handmade cards my children created for me, and placing their flowers in a prominent place in the house where I could show everyone who came over what my beautiful children had done for me on Mother’s Day.  Precious memories.

Memories some people will never ever have.  Instead Mother’s Day for some of them is filled with a haunting void- a place that a child should have filled, but instead guilt and emptiness is all there is.  Still others are so cold and empty it filters through their brains but nothing touches their hearts.  I’m not talking about the pain and tragic suffering of a Mother who lost her child to death.  I am talking about a mother who paid someone cold cash to murder her child growing in her womb.

One such woman I am thinking of this week is Jenny Kutner, a writer at Salon who last August wrote about her planned abortion.  Her callous and cold selfish online story has haunted me since I read it last August...

I wrote about her back then, about what she had done and how there was no motherly instinct in her at all to love and protect the child growing in her womb.  Instead she was filled with disdain and disgust at the tiny child.  Her story still haunts me as does the child she heartlessly killed.  I can't help but wonder if she feels differently today.

Has what she's done had any effect on her at all?  Regret?  Remorse?  Guilt? Depression?  Sadly, I think not going by her subsequent writings on birth control and sex.

Still, I wonder how she feels today as Mother’s Day approaches.  This first Mother's Day since her abortion...a day she might have celebrated with a child in her arms.  How will she feel every Mother’s Day for the rest of her life knowing she paid someone to murder her child because the timing was wrong?  How do the people who supported her “choice” to abort her child feel?  Her mother, who would be a grandmother today?  Her father, who would be a grandfather?   Are they thinking of the grandchild they helped murder?  Do they wonder what color eyes or hair their grandchild would have?  Do they miss holding and loving this child they helped abort?  Do they recall their dead grandchild at all?

How about her 'supportive' aunts?  Uncles?  Friends?  All those people who told her they supported her“choice” to pay another human being to kill the life growing within her.  The life of HERchild…a child that would one day create Mother’s Day cards for her, pick flowers for her and call her ‘mommy’.  That child is dead this Mother’s Day.  They helped killed him/her.  Collectively, with Kutner's choice of abortionist, these people murdered this child.  Kutner and all her supporters will never know that innocent child because together this murderous group helped another human being snuff out this child’s life.  Does anyone of her "supporters" think of this child?

I hope they are thinking of Kutner’s baby this and ever Mother’s Day for the rest
of their lives.  I hope they feel guilt and remorse.  I hope they pray to God for forgiveness for what they’ve done- the murder they've committed.  That child’s blood is on all their hands.

I wonder if they ever think of that?  Do they care?

For the sake of the souls of every single person who has had an abortion, performs an abortion and who supports abortion, I pray you will repent for what you have done/are doing.  It's murder.

This Mother's Day, I am asking my readers to PRAY for the mothers and fathers who have murdered their children, and for those who helped and offered their support in the butchering of a human being.  And pray for the end of abortion.

Mother's Day is a time to celebrate our children and the mothers and grandmother's who give them life, but we can't forget those the world has lost because they were aborted.  We can't forget them...ever.

Fr. Luciani was always said to have a sunny disposition, and not just on Sundays! Before he became John Paul I, the future Pope was known for having a cheerful personality from his early days as a student to his service as a parish priest and cardinal. Though he died shortly after his election, those who knew him best remember him as “Pope John Paul I-The Smile of God,” as portrayed in this feature film. Fr. Dan strikes again!

In August of 2013 (the summer Fr. Dan became a priest), I ran into Fr. Dan Fitzpatrick on Twitter who was actively promoting the often pornographic, rape filled violent show "Sons of Anarchy" on Twitter (he called it an "epic show").

See here: http://connecticutcatholiccorner.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-priesthood-pornography-and-violence.html

When I questioned Fr. Dan about his not only viewing such shows, but promoting it on Twitter he at first laughed it off.  I mentioned the graphic sex, sin and violence the show is wrapped around and Fr. Dan got silent with me.  Then when another Catholic questioned him about viewing such material he deleted his twitter account, created a new twitter account and blocked myself and the other Catholic who dared to question his promoting such offensive viewing material.

I kept track of Fr. Dan since then (had to create another Twitter account to do it) and found him to be as clueless as the summer he became a priest.  In my opinion he hasn't learned or grown in the true Faith at all since 2013.

Yet this unorthodox priest is quite popular in pubs and with his podcasts where he "teaches" the faith (God help those who listen to him!):

Now, Fr. Dan is back.  This time he is threatening to sue a Catholic blogger, Clare over at Faith in Our Families Blog (just like another priest we know) for attempting to correct him in another error.  Read Clare's story at Restore-DC Catholicism and at Faith in Our Families (who confronted Fr. Dan in his numerous errors like supporting gay marriage in Ireland on his Facebook page -below- and promoting the belief that the Holy Spirit is female on Twitter- thanks to another liberal priest).

This priest simply will NOT tolerate ANYONE who dares to rebuke him or question him about anything!

Fr. Dan has got to be disciplined by the Church and PROPERLY taught the official teachings of the Church!  Catholics do NOT need this sort of intolerant bad example priest leading them into sin and heresy.  We don't need priests who teach their personal opinions- we can get that in any protestant community.  We need and must have priests who teach official Church doctrine- ALWAYS.

HOW did this guy become a priest in the first place??

Pray to God that Fr. Dan either changes his ways or is REMOVED from his position before he does any more damage. And pray for the souls of all the people who might be or have been, led astray by this and other wayward priests.

In Christ,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner

Addition:
I found it interesting that Fr. Dan's sidekick, Fr. Marc first insults the Catholic blogger on Twitter saying "you're a hurtful abusive little woman that needs a hobby. You're no help to my church" and then speaks out of the other side of his mouth saying "You accomplish more by kind words and a courteous manner than by anger or sharp rebuke".

Fr. Marc's Twitter accounthttps://twitter.com/frlydensmith (by the way, he deleted the insult from his account- clearly not before the blogger at Faith in our Families saw it-see her blog post).

I am not being sued, they have misread this post.

Babble from the Vatican?

I am so sad to hear such protestant-like talk coming from the Vatican.  It never seems to stop...it just grows and grows - perhaps this is to prepare us for the "celebration" of the heretic Martin Luther in 2017?

Anyone who follows this blog, knows that I grew up in a protestant church and converted to the Catholic faith as an adult.  I had more than 30 years of protestantism in my life- and I was not someone who never attended a church.  I grew up in church, joined everything they had...youth groups, Sunday school for children and adults, bible studies, Christian book clubs and on and on.

I heard over and over again, that as a Christian I could discover God anywhere at any time because every believer was a "priest" (in the "universal priesthood" theology from dear ol' heretic Martin Luther).  That my personal relationship with God was my own to explore in whatever manner worked for me.  I didn't need a specific church or a minister/priest because ALL believers and followers of Christ were themselves members of the "universal priesthood"-there was no royal priesthood and still isn't for Protestants and their theology. As the saying goes "Protestants are their own popes!" - its true.  Each Protestant gets to decide everything for themselves.

For some people, that means never setting foot in a church building.  This is why so many people tune in to watch televangelists- they are taught they can find their "personal relationship with God" anywhere so there is no need to attend or belong to a church community.  They can instead tune in to Christian televangelists to occasionally "be fed the Word of God" and to "grow in their Bible knowledge".

This is protestant theology for many Christians.

Today when I heard it (via Rome Reports) coming from the Vatican my heart sank.

Quote from Rome Reports:

"The gift of mercy is the announcement that the Church is called to transmit in her work of evangelization in this time of great change.
It was the plenary meeting of the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization. The Pope asked them to continue questioning without fear about what exactly is "the most coherent place to find Christ and follow Him.”

Knowingly or unknowingly, people at the Vatican (including our current pope) are promoting Protestantism and telling people (people who hear the words of televangelists on TV and other protestant leaders will recognize this in a heartbeat) that they DO NOT NEED THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. That the "great change" in the Catholic Church is suddenly Protestant theology.  It's not, but that is how it sounds to people who have heard this sort of teaching before.  This isn't new to protestants, this is the foundation of their theology.

When people hear the Pope telling anyone (yes, I realize this is spoken to the PCNE) to "continue questioning without fear about what exactly is the most coherent place to find Christ and follow Him" what they will get out of that is exactly what Protestants have been teaching for centuries "You don't need the Catholic Church to have a personal relationship with God.  You can find that anywhere all on your own."

That IS the message being heard here.

If the Church doesn't make the message loud and CLEAR (something this Pope has a problem with) that the Holy Catholic Church IS "the most coherent place to find Christ and follow Him" then the Church is COMPLETELY failing in Her mission.

There should be NO question here.

Jesus Christ created ONE Church and that Church is the best place to "find Christ and follow Him".

Why is the Catholic Church ENCOURAGING anyone to "question" this?

Why is the Catholic Church telling anyone to question these beliefs "without fear"?

Its almost as if they have forgotten the existence of the Eucharist to hear such talk.

They are knowingly or unknowingly making the Church irrelevant to many people when such messaging comes out.

The Church must BOLDLY proclaim that She has always been and always will be "the most coherent place to find Christ and follow Him" because She is the ONLY place He is found Body, Soul, Blood and Divinity.  Period.

I wish Pope Francis would understand that.

In Christ & praying for the Church,

Julie @ Connecticut Catholic Corner
